The listeners of one of our favorite podcasts, Etenstijd!, hosted by Yvette van Boven and Teun van de Keuken, have made their voices heard. They voted Simple by Yotam Ottolenghi Best Cookbook of All Time.
Podcast hosts Yvette and Teun announced this today, Sunday, November 12, 2023, during a sold-out live show at the Schouwburg in Amstelveen. According to the two, the election of the Best Cookbook of All Time is set to become an annual tradition, at least as firmly established as the musical Top 2000.

Over the past few weeks, the listeners of Etenstijd! submitted their favorite cookbooks en masse. The list of entries was extremely varied, but Simple by Yotam Ottolenghi nevertheless proved far more popular than the rest. Thanks to him, ingredients such as sumac, za’atar and pomegranate seeds have become commonplace in the Netherlands. He has three books in the Etenstijd! Best Cookbooks of All Time list. His name has become a household name. Teun: ‘When someone says they’re cooking Ottolenghi tonight, everyone knows what they mean.’
Jamie Oliver most popular cookbook author of all time
A special mention goes to Jamie Oliver, who was voted the most popular cookbook author of all time. None of the books from Oliver’s enormous body of work made the top 10, but the most votes went to his oeuvre.
