Snacks that are (unfortunately) slowly disappearing from the snack bar

I don’t often go there, but when I do find myself there again, it feels like a real treat: the snack bar. And yes, it immediately gives me choice paralysis: so many delicious things, so many memories. I often skip the fries, because it would be such a waste of space when you can sample all those deep-fried snacks you haven’t had in years.

But lately, I’ve noticed it: some snacks are slowly disappearing from the selection. And that worries me. Because what will happen to our favorite classics?
Snack bar snacks we’re increasingly having to miss
1. Berehap
Perfection in its simplicity: a meatball with onion in between; life can be that simple. I prefer it with satay sauce (but that makes everything more delicious anyway). Fun fact: ‘Berehap’ is a brand name and therefore comes from a single manufacturer, which is why it is also often called ‘berenklauw’ or ‘berenhap’ (with an ‘n’ in between). Unfortunately, I see these far too rarely in the display cases anymore…

- Ah de berehap!
2. Satérol
When was the last time you ate a satérol? Exactly—I haven’t either. This snack is a sort of spring roll filled with chicken and satay sauce: pure heaven on a plate. It’s almost worth starting a petition to bring it back to every snack bar.
3. Shoarmarol
Fortunately, you can still find the shoarmarol, at least in some villages. With a dollop of garlic sauce on the side on a hungover Sunday… you really don’t need anything more to get back on your feet.
4. Zigeunerstick
The zigeunerstick is a forgotten gem, filled with chicken. It used to be a nice change when you were tired of kipcorn, but nowadays you hardly ever see it anymore, except online. Mora still makes it, but it has genuinely become a rarity in the snack bar.
5. Pikanto/minced-meat stick
I don’t know whether more people agree with me, but I miss snacks made with minced meat at the snack bar. The Berehap is disappearing, and I hardly see the Pikanto anymore either. I like the Mexicano, but it does have a completely different flavor. Interestingly, according to Wikipedia, the minced-meat stick also always contained horse meat. I wasn’t aware of that, but still: I miss this snack.
