Snackspert bought Johma’s tom kha kai salad and this is what it tastes like…

Eke Bosman, better known as Instagram phenomenon @snackspert, ate his first frikandel as a baby, hates vlammetjes, has devoured at least 1,500 burgers in his life, suspects there is more mayonnaise in his body than blood, and shares his best and worst snack reviews on FavorFlav every other week. This time he tried Johma’s new salad, ate some seriously delicious beer and chicken croquettes, and a scrumptious sandwich. A pretty good week, in other words.

Johma’s tom kha kai salad

You know those sci-fi films where worlds literally collide? Well, did you know that there’s something even worse in supermarkets these days? Johma “from Twente” with tom kha kai salad? Yes, let that sink in for a moment. This is quite something. You know the delicious Thai dish with coconut, chicken and lemongrass, among other things, but now as a spreadable salad. We live in crazy times. And while I absolutely demolished Johma’s hot wing salad, I have to honestly admit that this salad… is actually pretty tasty? I even took a COVID test to check whether I hadn’t lost my sense of taste, but the test came back negative (so positive, you get it?) It really is that coconut-and-lemon flavour on your sandwich/toast, with pieces of peanut and chicken on top. Pretty tasty. Secretly, I was hoping they would be salted peanuts; as it was, I mainly felt they didn’t add much. But still, it’s already a unique achievement for a salad like this to be pretty tasty. Once again: these are crazy times. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ ½

Beer and chicken croquettes from De Ambachterie at Restaurant de Friestal

And suddenly you’re in Sluis, you know, the town where Sergio Herman once ran Oud-Sluis. But hey, you don’t follow my page for those elitist dinners, so let’s quickly talk about the normal things in life, such as these beer and chicken croquettes from De Ambachterie that I ate at Restaurant de Frietstal (it wasn’t a chip shop). And I’ve genuinely eaten the most disgusting beer bitterballen/croquettes in my life (the ones from La Trappe Trappist still give me regular nightmares), but this was honestly the tastiest beer croquette I’ve had in ages. Asking around taught me that these are croquettes made with Brugse Zot, and luckily Brugse Zot isn’t that bitter. Which makes a croquette like this deeeelicious to eat. The chicken croquette was perfectly fine, by the way, but next time go for these beer croquettes. Yum. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Porchetta sandwich from Trattoria FAAM

Hey, people of Amsterdam, have you ever heard of Trattoria FAAM? Neither had I until recently, but this Italian deli is one to keep an eye on. Especially for sunny days when you want to eat a sandwich outdoors with your loved one/fling/rebound/oh God, not him or her again/companion. For example, get the porchetta sandwich, which is homemade and comes with the best tarragon mayonnaise I’ve had in ages. And that bread, honestly: so soft, so cuddly, every bite is a celebration. Thanks in part to the sauce, the meat also has such a lovely, tender flavour that it genuinely humbles me. The only slight downside is the amount of lettuce on the sandwich. I understand that it’s needed for a fresh balance, but they got a little too enthusiastic here. Nevertheless: what a sandwich. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ½
