Eke Bosman, better known as Instagram phenomenon @snackspert, ate his first frikandel as a baby, hates vlammetjes, has devoured at least 1,000 burgers in his lifetime, suspects there’s more mayonnaise than blood in his body, and normally shares his best and worst snack reviews on FavorFlav every other week.

Chicken katsu sandwich, Amazing Oriental

I hope there’s an Amazing Oriental near you, because if anything is amazing, it’s the Asian supermarket. And it’s even more amazing when you can also get a sandwich there, because I’d much rather have a sandwich than a nut for lunch, honestly. And man, they have such delicious things. Doesn’t this sandwich look tastier than the average cover model? This is the chicken katsu sandwich. What exactly is katsu? Crispy chicken made with panko breadcrumbs. And guys, it’s a party. Especially when the chicken is still wonderfully tender and juicy and the mayonnaise feels as tender as the love scene in the car in Titanic. The only downside is the sandwich itself, which is slightly too hard in my opinion. After eating this big sandwich, it felt like my jaw muscles had muscle soreness, but seriously, it’s absolutely worth it to me. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Veganaise, Van Wijngaarden’s Zaanse

I’ll admit it right away: Zaanse mayonnaise is one of my favorite mayos, and I even love eating it with the fanciest piece of meat, so if you want to serve me something aged for 24 months, I’ll reach for the Zaanse and please don’t take offense. I simply adore it. That’s partly why I had to blink a few times when Van Wijngaarden launched a vegan version, because surely something like that can’t work, right? It is quite handy for people who can’t eat eggs due to an allergy or something similar, though, so I decided to give it a try. And now comes the strange part: it isn’t even that different from the real Zaanse. It does lack a little of that legendary creamy feeling and is a touch more sour, but it’s still so much better than the average mayonnaise on supermarket shelves. Chapeau, then, because honestly, I didn’t expect this. But hey, I also didn’t expect two pandas in Rhenen to have a baby panda this year. Typical, right? ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Food for the trash

Grilled vegetable focaccia, Albert Heijn

The grilled vegetable focaccia from Albert Heijn. The one from the bakery section, so to speak. I’ve been walking past that section for years and have managed to avoid this one, because it’s genuinely the least sexy snack there. A bit like Frits Sissing at the Musical Awards among bakery snacks. And yet it remains in the assortment. It’s time for some renewal there, Albert Heijn. The focaccia itself is fine, and the vegetables are too, but it is honestly a boring snack. It’s not something you can proudly bring home; even your parents wouldn’t approve. Come on, this could really be a little less hippie. Get to work—I want sexy snacks there. ⭐️⭐️
