Snackspert gives new sweet chili cheese sticks from TopKing the highest score

Eke Bosman, better known as Instagram phenomenon @snackspert, ate his first frikandel as a baby, hates vlammetjes, has already devoured at least 1,500 burgers in his life, suspects there is more mayonnaise than blood in his body, and shares his best and worst snack reviews on FavorFlav every other week. On the menu this week: a vegan shawarma sandwich and 5 (!) star KaasTengels.

TopKing sweet chili KaasTengels

Are we going to wrap up this Whit weekend with yet another 5-star review? All right, because the weather was so awful today and because I’m in an exceptionally good mood—I’ll be sour often enough over the coming week, I’m sure. But these TopKing sweet chili KaasTengels, honestly, even the sourest man or woman on earth would be happy with them. I often eat my cheese sticks with sweet chili sauce, but this is genuinely the first type of cheese stick (hahaha, now it sounds as though it has an entire family—how cool) that doesn’t need any sauce. How?! It has the delicious flavor of mature cheese, but also the spiciness and sweetness of the peppers. As if Ronaldo and Messi were on the same team, holy moly! And just to emphasize my enthusiasm: these days, alongside the Old Amsterdam bitterballen, I’m also going to buy these sweet chili KaasTengels as standard. BRAVO. B-R-A-V-O! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Vegan shawarma from Mr. Vegan Foodbar, Hilversum

Vegan shawarma? Absolutely delicious. Most vegan places in the Netherlands have succeeded in creating a pleasant vegan version of shawarma, but then again, that’s actually quite logical. Get a tender piece of meat substitute and go overboard with the shawarma spices as if you feel like spraying the way an average porn actor does, and yes, then you’ve got yourself a good vegan shawarma sandwich. Mr. Vegan Foodbar in Hilversum (also in Groningen and Apeldoorn) has understood it too. Good, tender shawarma, a little onion and cucumber, and—as you can see in the photo—a liiiittle too much onion. Which, incidentally, could have been fried a bit longer. That’s a minor drawback. The pita bread is very solid, by the way: nice and crispy on the outside, but fortunately not too thin, so it doesn’t break apart. Recommended! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Chicken fries from Kips

Somehow, the word chicken fry sounds pretty gross, doesn’t it? I can’t really explain it, but my first reaction when I saw the product was, “Wow, disgusting, I need to try this.” A bit like when you’re standing in a club completely drunk and see someone without knowing whether it’s going to be a kiss or a handshake, but anyway. But Kips’ chicken fries are actually… tasty? However, don’t put them in the microwave, because that creates a mouthfeel just as strange as eating a reheated mango. They’re genuinely good from the oven or air fryer: a little crispy and nicely seasoned. It’s not the snack that will make the end-of-year list, but it’s perfectly fine to serve with drinks. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ ½
