Snackspert is raving about Lidl’s flammkuchen (and at that price!)

Eke Bosman, better known as Instagram phenomenon @snackspert, ate his first frikandel as a baby, hates vlammetjes, has already devoured at least 1,500 burgers in his lifetime, suspects there is more mayonnaise in his body than blood, and shares his best and worst snack reviews on FavorFlav every other week. This week: two major disappointments and one 5-star review (for just 99 cents!).

Brazilian Pao de Queijo from Guto’s

Help! Where are the new supermarket snacks that are actually worth eating? Sure, those pizza pockets from Lidl were really great, but the new additions are rather sparse. And now this again: the Brazilian Pao de Queijo from Guto’s, which you can find in some supermarkets and Asian grocery stores. It’s frozen cheese bread, and yes, that sounds really great, but this one also tastes like some stale wine gum. No cheese flavor again, and that strange texture again. So spongy. What is that? How hard can it be to actually put melted cheese in these things? I know those Brazilian cheese snacks can be absolutely fantastic, but so far, the supermarket versions of this potentially divine snack are a huge disappointment—enough to make even Rob Geus shout “manmanman.” So help me out. Which new snacks are actually worth it? I’m starting to lose hope. ⭐️

New York Pizza’s schnitzel pizza

I’m always up for something crazy. And no, not the kind of crazy where you say, ‘Let’s pour sweet white wine instead of dry white wine into Uncle Koos’s glass for once!!!’ but actual craziness, like ordering a schnitzel pizza from New York Pizza. Because yes, it’s Alpine Weeks. I could also have gone for the German steak, but I was so curious about that schnitzel pizza that I was willing to throw caution to the wind. And yes, I was hoping for a German surprise like we—no, I’ll stop. But no. It’s a jumble of very strange ingredients. Broccoli, cherry tomatoes, schnitzel and garlic sauce? As if you merged Telstar and Ajax and said that half of Telstar now had to be in the starting lineup. Very strange. It’s not disgusting, but every bite is simply wrong. What a shame. ⭐️⭐️
