Snackspert is ecstatic: ‘This is already the snack of 2022’

Chun Café broodje Snackspert

Eke Bosman, better known as Instagram phenomenon @snackspert, ate his first frikandel as a baby, hates vlammetjes, has devoured at least 1,500 burgers in his life, suspects there is more mayonnaise in his body than blood, and shares his best and worst snack reviews on FavorFlav every other week. This week features an absolute highlight, because Snackspert ate a sandwich that will undoubtedly become the snack of 2022.

Brabant sausage roll sauce by Yildriz

Brabant sausage roll sauce? Then you’re really willing to risk your life, because I dare say that relationships have been broken up because one of the two put sauce on their sausage roll. But the Brabant supermarket Jumbo apparently dares to take the plunge and sells this ‘special’ sauce by Yildriz. Bold. Bold. But I really hope they’re selling this from a marketing perspective, because it tastes like nothing. It’s the sweetness of mayonnaise combined with the sharpness of mustard. Together, those two flavors are really soooo bland. It doesn’t sparkle, if you know what I mean. As if you show up at Eurovision in a black turtleneck with a song written by Snollebollekes. It doesn’t work. The sauce is boring, neutral, a little tasteless, a little indecisive. And then there’s this: special sauce for a sausage roll? Hahaha. ⭐️

Rib Eye Bulgogi toast by Chun Café, Amsterdam

Is this already the snack of 2022? Yes, I have your attention now, don’t I? Last year, the sandwich with fried chicken, avocado, beans and so on from Dignita was such a huge hit, but on this January 31 I already dare to make a new prediction: this Rib Eye Bulgogi toast from Chun Café in Amsterdam is the next big thing. No joke. It’s a divine toasted sandwich topped with a soft-boiled egg, and underneath that rib eye in a bulgogi marinade, completed with some gochujang sauce (Korean chili paste) and deliciously tangy mayonnaise. Every single bite—really, every bite—is a celebration. It’s the kind of celebration you still think about months later, like that one legendary afterparty at Lowlands. The Korean-marinated meat is exceptionally juicy, full of notes of garlic and onion and a little pepper. I haven’t eaten anything like this in moooonths, so I’ll let the high price slide. It’s one of the few sandwiches in the capital that is really, truly, truly worth the money. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Veggie nugget burger by Burger King

Do you remember that from soccer, back in the day? You had that one right winger on the team who spent the entire match aimlessly running forward and backward and could never control a ball properly. This Veggie Nugget Burger from Burger King is a bit like that. If the word ‘desolate’ had a face, this would be it. Come oooon, this isn’t how you build a burger, is it? Yes, there’s little to criticize about the taste—the vegetarian nuggets are actually quite good, not too dry, and the chili sauce on top is also an excellent addition. But every bite feels as empty as the refrigerator of someone who collects empty bottles. You can do better, guys. ⭐️⭐️
