Snackspert is full of praise for Kadir’s chicken frikandel pastry

Eke Bosman, better known as Instagram phenomenon @snackspert, ate his first frikandel as a baby, hates vlammetjes, has devoured at least 1,500 burgers in his lifetime, suspects there is more mayonnaise in his body than blood, and shares his best and worst snack reviews on FavorFlav. This week, he put Kadir’s chicken frikandel pastries in the oven, while the hamburger from snack bar Kwalitaria proved rather disappointing.

Kadir’s chicken frikandel pastry

Are you ready for a banger? Then I have one for you, one that has recently hit supermarket shelves: Kadir’s chicken frikandel pastry. And no, a chicken frikandel isn’t that special—the legendary frikandel XXL also consists solely of mechanically separated chicken meat. And having said that, this frikandel pastry tastes SO good partly for that very reason. Deliciously tender; the meat could have been a little thicker, but the curry sauce is really lovely—one that actually tastes more like curry, AT LAST. And then the pastry, also absolutely excellent. Not too sandy, so no, it’s not as if you have Scheveningen Beach in your mouth, no. A truly fantastic pastry; hopefully supermarkets will also start selling it ‘fresh’. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ½

Rustica sourdough pizza by Crosta & Mollica

Yessss people, there it is again: Crosta & Mollica! Their stromboli pizza with spicy salami got 5 stars from me and has been the king of frozen pizzas ever since. Seriously. And now it’s time for a new one: the Rustica, with mushrooms, pancetta and mascarpone. And wow, mascarpone is incredibly delicious as a base—much tastier than mozzarella. And that pancetta, so wonderfully crispy. And then that crust, as sturdy as an excellent pillow, giving you the best nights ever. The only minor downside is that I didn’t find it particularly generously topped. The stromboli pizza did that much better, but let’s be honest: that’s really just complaining for the sake of complaining. Because Crosta & Mollica—it’s a shame I don’t own shares in it—is truly king. What a pizza once again. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ½

Original Burger by Kwalitaria

If this Monday were a burger, it would have to be this Original Burger from Kwalitaria. Yes, that snack chain that is now found in almost every city in the Netherlands. But dear people, this was made with absolutely no love. The bun is just as dry as that one uncle at the family birthday party who makes jokes like, ‘I bought a leek the other day, but it turned out to be celery.’ What a shame. The meat is fine, really, but very salty, and ultimately it tastes as though it has just come out of the machine. The slice of cucumber and the slice of tomato do little for the flavour, and the tomato sauce is far too sour. I may be in a lenient mood, but with 2 stars it’s definitely not recommended anyway. ⭐️⭐️
