Snackspert tests the spicy minced meat toastie from AH To Go

tosti pittig gehakt AH To Go

Eke Bosman, better known as Instagram phenomenon @snackspert, ate his first frikandel as a baby, hates vlammetjes, has devoured at least 1,500 burgers in his life, suspects there is more mayonnaise in his body than blood, and shares his best and worst snack reviews on FavorFlav. Today, he gives his verdict on Kwekkeboom’s new snacks, the spicy minced meat toastie from AH To Go, and visits one of Amsterdam’s tastiest sandwich shops: Chun Café.

Nacho Cheese Flavour Cauliflower and Just-Like-Chicken Nugget from Kwekkeboom

Nacho Cheese Flavour Cauliflower Nugget. I repeat: Nacho Cheese Flavour Cauliflower Nugget. It’s just as much of a mouthful as having a 35-centimetre frikandel XXL in your gob, so that promises a lot of good things. Kwekkeboom recently launched a new vegan snack line and yes, this is definitely one that immediately stands out. Because why cauliflower? Well, that question was quickly answered after I took a bite. This was really good. The crust was partly made up of nacho pieces, very nice, which also made it crispy, and the cauliflower was surrounded by a vegan alternative to cheddar. I did think it could have contained quite a bit more salt, because hot cauliflower can be just as empty as Dirk van Natasja in B&B Vol Liefde. But here the vegan cheddar saves the day, despite the fact that it still needed more salt. Very nice, though. Delicious snack! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The just-like-chicken (fun name) nugget is also really good, but yeah, it’s simply like a good chicken nugget. Nothing special about it. You want a Hakim Ziyech as a nugget, not a Michiel Kramer. With all due respect. So yes, it’s simply good, but it’s missing a sparkle. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Garlic shrimp and bacon egg cheese sandwich from Chun Café, Amsterdam

Chun Café, the place that made the tastiest sandwich (the rib eye bulgogi) of the year. If you missed it, the pinned review is at the top of my page. Anyway. They have other sandwiches too, such as the garlic shrimp. And my goodness, this is such a treat again; that toasted sandwich is SO delicious every time. And those garlic shrimp, yum. If someone doesn’t want to French-kiss you because of the garlic smell, you simply won’t be disappointed, because the sandwich was already hot enough. The downside was that the further you got into the sandwich, the less flavour there was. But that only became a little troublesome towards the end, luckily. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

And then there’s the other sandwich, the bacon egg cheese sandwich, which is definitely deliciously greasy. And you can hear a but coming, well, here it is: after you had eaten the top off, the rest of the filling was nothing but egg. What a shame! Because the perfectly cooked bacon could also be deeper inside the sandwich, just like the melted cheese. A little more balance and it would have been a big, fat recommendation. Now it’s ‘just’ a pass. Oh well, you can’t always hit a six. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Spicy minced meat toastie from AH To Go

No, this isn’t the morning after the first night at Lowlands, although I wouldn’t rule out the possibility that someone’s sandwich accidentally looked like this this morning. But this is a spicy minced meat toastie from AH To Go. I was already a fan of the Old Amsterdam toastie, but this toastie is really nothing more than an evening with your casual fling that you won’t remember anything about seven months and 36 days from now. Although it says spicy minced meat, it wasn’t a spicy party in your mouth and, although the cheese was melted, you still expected more volume in your mouth. It’s a perfectly decent toastie, certainly, but there are so many better ones. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
