Snackspert: the German McDonald’s Big Rösti is a really good fast-food burger

Eke Bosman, better known as Instagram phenomenon @snackspert, ate his first frikandel as a baby, hates vlammetjes, has devoured at least 1,500 burgers in his lifetime, suspects there’s more mayonnaise in his body than blood, and shares his best and worst snack reviews on FavorFlav. Let’s get straight to the point: McDonald’s Big Rösti is amazing. The only downside: you have to go to Germany for it. Bring it to the Netherlands soon!

Finally ate the German McDonald’s Big Rösti and, besides the McRib, this is yet another reason I’m annoyed that I can’t visit foreign McDonald’s more often, because they have so many delicious surprises! Oh man. That’s also why every trip abroad is a treat. Anyway, the Big Rösti. A burger topped with a rösti (basically a potato cake), nicely melted cheddar (so they can do that here!!!!!!), and crispy bacon that has actually just been fried. Once again: they can do that here! And although the patty is pretty decent—it could have been cooked a little more—it’s mainly the rest, including the rösti, that makes it so delicious. And they put mayonnaise on it. YUM. That creaminess, especially combined with potato, yum. This is simply a really good fast-food burger. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Is it a kneecap or a clog that a bird has pooped in? Neither! Yes, you wouldn’t have guessed that either, would you? But this is a cheese pide from AH To Go. And it may well be one of the strangest snacks in the station supermarket’s range. The pide itself is pretty okay, but the filling is sooooo weird. It’s a combination of cheese and yoghurt, and it’s especially the taste of yoghurt that makes my eyebrows furrow like Maarten van Rossem. No, it doesn’t make me happy. So you’ve been warned if you’re going to visit family tomorrow or the day after and want to pick up a snack along the way. ⭐️⭐️

The snack of 2022. Last year, Dignita’s sandwich with fried chicken, avocado, beans and so on was a huge hit, but this Rib Eye Bulgogi toast from Chun Café in Amsterdam is the next big thing. No joke. It’s a divine toasted sandwich topped with a soft-boiled egg, with rib eye underneath in a bulgogi marinade, finished with some gochujang sauce (Korean chili paste) and delicious tangy mayonnaise. Every single bite—really, every bite—is a celebration. It’s the kind of celebration you’ll still be thinking about months later, like that one legendary afterparty at Lowlands. The Korean-marinated meat is exceptionally juicy, packed with hints of garlic and onion and a little pepper. I haven’t eaten anything like it in moooonths, so I’ll forgive the high price. It’s one of the few sandwiches in the capital that is truly, truly, truly worth the money. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
