Snackspert’s week: “Good, pure, slightly salty cheese flavor. You’ll finish these 10 in no time. And that’s great.”

Eke Bosman, better known as Instagram phenomenon @snackspert, ate his first frikandel as a baby, hates vlammetjes, has already devoured at least 1,000 burgers in his life, suspects that there is more mayonnaise in his body than blood, and shares his best and worst snack reviews on FavorFlav every other week. And what a week it was!

Vegetarian croquette burger, Albert Heijn

I’ve noticed that almost all supermarkets are mainly coming up with new vegetarian snacks. Over the past few months, I’ve barely seen a new meat snack, but that’s actually understandable, since there is still a lot of catching up to do when it comes to vegetarian and vegan products. But the fact that the vegetarian croquette burger is only now appearing on supermarket shelves is a disgrace. Because by now we know that regular vegetarian croquettes are genuinely good, and perhaps even better than the average supermarket croquette (emphasis on supermarket, so not one from a specialty shop). And until now, the selection of croquette burgers (made with meat) was already meager, because Mora’s has about as much flavor as an ‘expert’ from an average lifestyle program on television that airs on Sundays at 1:10 p.m. But anyway, Vivera has finally launched one of its own: the plant-based croquette burger. What a fantastic product. Absolutely spot-on in terms of flavor. Incredibly delicious. Good stock flavor, good bite. One minor downside is that the inside isn’t as creamy as that of a genuinely good croquette, perhaps still a little too dry. That needs improving, but in terms of flavor, it’s simply put together excellently. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Saté Bar Charley, Amsterdam

Yeah, why not head to the Noordermarkt in Amsterdam tomorrow. It’s an especially lovely market if you’re a food fan, because there’s so much delicious food to eat there. How about Saté Bar Charley, which sets up at this market in the Jordaan every Saturday? The saté domba (lamb) and saté kambing (goat) had already sold out in the afternoon, but luckily you could still order the saté babi (pork). I often find saté boring, dry, and too thin, but that is absolutely not the case here. It’s like booking an all-inclusive hotel in Turkey, but without the hassle: you get everything you want. That meat is incredibly tender. The onions are so deliciously crisp. As far as I’m concerned, the saté sauce could have been a little spicier, but that’s more a personal preference than an objective opinion. So if you’re going to eat this saté soon, say it after me: here we go, I’m about to have delicious saté. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
