Better than pleasure

The Beef Chief Gangnam Hotdog

Ordering a hotdog at the best burger joint in the Netherlands is a bit like ordering a salad at a hotdog stand in the United States, but hey, someone has to do it, right? Because I wanted to find out whether these guys’ hotdogs are just as magical as their burgers. The Gangnam Hotdog consists of a sausage from Brandt & Levie, sounds good sounds good, and A WHOLE LOT OF TOPPINGS SPRAY ME FULL I’M OPRAH EVERYONE GETS TOPPINGS. AND YOU GET TOPPINGS! Well, that’s basically it. The cheese sauce combined with the Korean mayo, along with the kimchi, creates a deliciously sour, spicy flavor, and the minced meat too—you can see it less clearly in the photo—provides the full-mouth experience that Kim Holland would be proud of. Only: compared with the bun and the toppings, the sausage is too crispy. It could be a little softer, a little more tender. That’s an important criticism, but fortunately it doesn’t ruin the dish, because the flavor makes up for so much. Not the maximum score, but still a big, good one. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Falafel from L’As du Fallafel

Hello everyone, welcome to the new episode of Shut Your Trap, Grab a Falafel, and this time we’ve ended up in Paris. I set out to eat the best falafel in the world, and I’ve been tipped off about this place often enough. According to The New York Times, L’As du Fallafel (yes, the French spell it with two l’s) is supposedly the best in the world, and Lenny Kravitz also regularly stops by. And then it’s up to me to see whether people are right. Don’t worry: they are. The amount of tahini on the sandwich is already orgasmic—even if you make an incredible mess—and the falafel itself is exceptionally crispy and flavorful. With fried eggplant (big pieces, young ones!) and pickled cucumber, it’s just as much of a party in your mouth as an average edition of Lowlands. Never before has making a mess been so much fun. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Food for the toilet

Festival fries from Piepers & Rund

There are just as many festivals in the Netherlands as there are presenters on RTL Boulevard (just kidding, guys, love your show), but that also means that A LOT of food trucks have been added in recent years. Of course, everyone has increasingly come to love food, and that’s a good thing. Better one too many frikandels in your stomach than a beating, so hey, it’s all good. At the SoccerRocker festival, among other places, I went to eat at Piepers&Rund and yes, I find it difficult. It was incredibly disappointing. And that’s a bit of the problem: there are so many food trucks and so many festivals that it actually comes at the expense of quality. In my opinion, there is so much demand for food trucks that quality is barely considered. As long as you have a food truck at your festival, you’re fine. The fries with mayonnaise from Piepers&Rund are hollow, empty, tasteless and have spent too long in the fryer. And no, it wasn’t really busy at that moment. And yes, the guys there were nevertheless working incredibly hard. But the fries simply weren’t good at all. I can name countless other trucks that serve much better fries, so I’m sorry, but this is absolutely nothing. ⭐️
