Souvenir hunting #7

At home, we rarely count a trip to the supermarket among the highlights of the day. But abroad, at least one supermarket visit is planned in the hunt for edible souvenirs to take home. What shouldn’t you miss from each country? FavorFlav scours the shelves.

Today we return from England with:

1. Crisps with crazy flavors

England has numerous magnificent department stores, with an endless array of culinary souvenirs. From very expensive to a few pounds for a bag of honey roast Wiltshire ham, four cheese and red onion, chicken mustard and worcester sauce, or Thai coconut chicken crisps. Crisps champion Marks & Spencer alone sells more than twenty ‘hand cooked’ flavors. Don’t forget the piña colada mocktail popcorn either.

2. Stilton in a jar

Is the strong smell of blue-veined Stilton from Nottinghamshire and elsewhere a bit too much for you? Then try the younger white variety. The British are rather traditional when it comes to food, so every Christmas a large Stilton wheel appears on the table with an upside-down bottle of port inserted into it. Whether that bottle also fits in this amusing jar?

3. Christmas gifts in advance

Since we’re talking about Christmas, no nation takes this holiday-turned-feasting-fest as seriously as the British. And that’s why you can already shop for Christmas in the middle of summer at places such as Harrods, the leader in British Christmas retail. Think: spiced coffee and tea. Handy!
