Spanish Food Hall, Then?

We were starting to think that food-hall capital New York was becoming a little food-hall weary. Especially because we hadn’t heard anything for a very long time about the megalomaniacal plan by The Layover presenter Anthony Bourdain at Pier 57.

Could the food-hall hype be over, now that things had remained so quiet in the Parts Unknown section? We started to fear that The Great Northern Food Hall by former Noma pioneer Claus Meyer might be the last on the list. Especially when Danny Meyer canceled his plans for 10 Hudson Yards beneath the famous High Line.

And then, all of a sudden, we read that Spanish-New York chef Jose Andrès is going to open a Spanish food hall in exactly the spot Danny Meyer had given up.

And not only that: it now turns out that the Catalan molecular brothers Ferran and Albert Adrià will also be taking on this Spanish-New York project together with Jose, in what will be their first North American adventure.

And furthermore, David ‘Momofuku’ Chang, Thomas Keller, Costas Spiliadis and Michael Lomonaco have all since confirmed that they will open a venue in the almost 3,500-square-meter space, where, alongside a hundred shops and restaurants, 4,000 homes, a public school and a luxury hotel are planned.

The Spanish food hall will open sometime toward the end of 2018. By the way, Anthony’s site still lists 2019 as the target year for his Bourdain Market. New York food-hall weary? Not quite yet.
