Special hospitality concept: Doloris in Tilburg

I’m often asked: “What are truly great hospitality concepts?” Here’s my answer! Every week, I take you to the most special restaurants, bars and hotels at home and abroad. Today, a place for real daredevils! Step inside (and get lost!) at Doloris in Tilburg.

Earlier this year, something mysterious and unique opened in the old post office on Tilburg’s Spoorlaan, next to the station. In fact, we had never seen anything like it in the Netherlands before. At Doloris, you’ll find a surrealist maze as well as a fantastic rooftop bar and restaurant on the roof.

Berlin and Brabant
Let’s start with the gigantic maze, featuring more than forty rooms, designed by artists from Berlin and Brabant. Total area: more than four hundred square metres. So you’ll be entertained here for quite a while! Those who enter the maze via an old freight lift find themselves in a completely different world. Obviously, we won’t give too much away, except that you need to take your time and phones are not allowed inside. Once you’re in, there’s no turning back…

Bar and restaurant
Did you make it through the journey? Then you automatically end up at the rooftop, where you’ll find a bar and restaurant. And it’s worth visiting for the view alone, from a height of seventeen metres! The menu features street-food dishes from around the world, which you can share with your table companions.

Sultry and sexy
And then there’s the rooftop interior. It doesn’t look like a perfect picture, but that’s exactly the intention. The designers at Beers|Brickworks describe it as ‘styled chaos with an eye for detail’. Playful and not too proper. “While indoors we emphasise the sultry, feminine and sexy atmosphere, on the roof terrace we’ve created a free playground with a special Corona lounge area where guests can lean back and enjoy the sunset. The roof should feel like a holiday!”

Dare devils
It’s clear that ‘Tilly’ has gained a real hotspot! Just consider this: tens of thousands of people from the Netherlands and abroad have already visited Doloris. It’s no coincidence that Doloris was nominated for an Entree Award 2019, in the Dare Devil category. Good to know: admission to the maze costs nineteen euros.
