Spotted on Funda: a brown café in a house

Only fun people at the bar, your favorite beer always on tap and a slot machine you never lose on. That dream could be yours. We spotted a house on Funda with an in-house brown café and are completely obsessed.

Pool table? Check! Bar counter with dozens of bottles of booze? Check! A whole row of bar stools with leather seats? You bet: check! Only the cheerful Rooie Nelleke, Blonde Tinie and Zwarte Toos are missing from the photo, and you’ll also have to imagine the music of André Hazes, Manke Nelis and Bolle Jan yourself. Other than that, the brown café is completely equipped, from the Persian rugs on the floor to the bell hanging from the ceiling. Buying a round? Of course! It’s your birthday and you hung up the streamers yourself. It’s also your house and your bar, so why not?

And we’re not going home yet, not by a long shot!
It’s a shame our boys in Oranje aren’t doing so well, because this is the ultimate place to watch football with all your friends. Had a little too much to drink? Forget the taxi; you’re already home! And how great is it to set your own opening hours? And we’re not going home yet, not by a long shot, not by a long shot! We’re already home, after all. And we’ll carry on for as long as we want.
Brown cafés: a dying breed
You don’t need to convince us; we can definitely see ourselves sitting here. Besides, the brown café is a dying breed – numbers have fallen by 30% over the past 10 years – which is another reason we’re advocating for a brown café at home. But what else do you get for the hefty €1.75 million the house is asking? And where is it located?
Funda gem
The setting is Veenendaal, and even without the cozy pub, the house is a true Funda gem. The property has an area of 515 m2 and formerly housed a textile wholesaler. It also served as a hospital during the Second World War. Apparently, the current owners weren’t satisfied with just the enormous rooftop terrace for entertaining guests; for extra coziness, a brown pub had to be installed. It’s a shame they’re leaving—people like that are exactly the kind we’d love to be friends with. Should the house become yours, you know where to find us!
