Start Zero Waste Week right: discover AEG’s new sustainable steam oven

Be honest: how often do you throw away food? The leftover spaghetti you couldn’t finish, a failed bake, leftover lasagne that you can’t reheat properly… You secretly end up throwing quite a lot of food in the bin. Such a waste! Zero Waste Week—which starts today—draws attention to this problem. We’re kicking things off with a great tip: AEG’s new sustainable steam oven. This oven will help you waste less food in an easy way.

I just mentioned that ‘quite a lot’ of food gets thrown away, but you can safely change that to ‘a huge amount’. Because did you know that more than 25% of all food in the Netherlands is never eaten? That’s truly bizarre. Especially when you consider that this food is grown, processed, transported, refrigerated and heated. All processes that consume energy. It’s therefore a pretty good feeling to know that you have appliances at home from a brand that places a high value on sustainability. That’s why we’re fans of AEG’s products.
Steaming: delicious and sustainable
Since 2015, AEG has sourced 60% of its total energy consumption from renewable sources. This change has brought considerable sustainable success: since then, AEG’s operational CO2 emissions have decreased by no less than 82%. Great, right?
But AEG is taking things one step further. By creating smart products, they’re making sure that you and I can take sustainable steps too. They’ve achieved this with their new sustainable steam oven. It’s part of their EcoLine: a range of AEG’s most energy-efficient appliances. In AEG’s steam oven, you can easily reheat leftovers, while vegetables retain a large proportion of their vitamins. What’s more, the steam programmes use 20% less energy than regular oven programmes. And, importantly: steaming makes your dish even more delicious and is a foolproof way to prepare food.
Smart oven
AEG’s steam oven is not only part of the EcoLine, but also of the new AEG Kitchen Range. All products in this range are connected. Yes, people, there’s no escaping it anymore. AI is coming to your kitchen too. With the CookSmartTouch function, you can choose from an extensive selection of recipes from websites of your choice; the associated app optimises them and then sends them to the oven.
Yes, you read that correctly; you can load the recipe you want to make into the app, after which you can optimise the oven programme and, if necessary, see an adjusted time and temperature. This makes it virtually impossible for your dish to come out of the oven overcooked or undercooked. Once again, this helps prevent you from throwing away failed dishes.
And that’s a very welcome addition, because 80% of consumers look up recipes on websites (like this one), but are often unsure whether a recipe will work. Ovens with AI Taste Assist (available from November 2024) optimise all those recipes for the best taste experience.
Wake-up call
A top tip for anyone who would like to pay a little more attention to food waste: AEG’s new steam oven. Honestly, we should all waste less food, of course. Throwing away a quarter of our food is ridiculous. Did you know that if we stopped throwing away food in the Netherlands for one week, we would save more than 23 million meals?! Holy shit. If that’s not a wake-up call…
