Step by step to the perfect hamburger

It’s no secret that we love hamburgers. A good bun, a juicy burger, crunchy toppings and a killer sauce to finish it off, and don’t change a thing. The burger is the most important part, after all. How do you make it restaurant-quality? By following these steps, easy does it.

Choose quality
Choose ground meat instead of those ready-made burgers from the supermarket. This gives your burgers a better texture and allows you to season them exactly the way you like. If you choose beef or pork, make sure you use ground meat with a fat percentage of at least twenty percent. After all, nobody wants a dry burger. For chicken or turkey burgers, it’s best to choose thigh meat instead of breast. Choose organic meat or meat from the butcher.
Don’t knead for too long
To ensure that the meat stays as juicy as possible, handle it gently. Make sure you don’t knead it too much. This can give the burger a tough texture. Simply mix everything together quickly and shape it into juicy burgers without hesitation.
The right size
Meat shrinks during cooking, and it’s a shame if the bun is much larger than the burger. So make sure your burger is at least one centimeter larger in diameter than your bun. Make an indentation in the center of the burger with your thumb. This prevents your burger from developing a strange dome on top.
Seasoning
Salt and pepper are essential on your burger, but sprinkle them only on the outside of the burger and not into the ground meat while mixing it with the other ingredients. Salt draws out moisture, and that’s exactly what you don’t want.
Flip the burger properly
You need to flip the burger frequently. This helps it cook evenly and develop a lovely brown color all over. Do you tend to press down on the burger with your spatula? Don’t. This only causes the delicious juices to escape.
Let it rest
I understand that you want to wolf down your hamburger as quickly as possible. But let the burger rest for a few minutes. This keeps the juices in the meat and preserves the burger’s juicy flavor.
