And I think I’ve found the ultimate boss. In the form of Japanese (bread) artist Manami Sasaki. Just when I thought I was doing well with my grilled rye bread topped with a slice of farmhouse cheese, sprouts and a smear of mustard, this lady comes along with her sandwiches.

Or should I call them works of art? Because that’s what they are, more than anything. Is Manami a professional? No, these are simply the sandwiches she makes for lunch at home during lockdown. Want to give it a try too? On her Instagram account, she shares the ingredients she used for each sandwich. If you’re looking for me, I’ll be in the kitchen practising—or sitting in a corner sulking because it isn’t working. Another option: simply look at and admire Manami’s art.
