Colourful, cheerful and a mix of furniture like you’d find in Latin America, but just a little hipper. That’s Supermercado in Rotterdam. The same actually applies to the dishes.  You’ll eat dishes there that you’d find in Peru or Argentina, such as ceviche (find a recipe here), churros with dulce de leche and flan, as well as sweet potato fries, nachos and burgers.

And the prices? They’re great. You can get a pulled pork taco for € 3.50, sea bass ceviche for € 9,- wild rice salad for € 5,- and a portion of fries for € 3,-.

Rotterdam’s nightlife street

The crowd is fairly young, which makes sense given the location on Rotterdam’s main nightlife street. At weekends, from around 22:00 onwards, it fills up with Rotterdam’s hip crowd coming to have drinks. That makes Supermercado a place where you can quickly grab a bite, but also linger with friends for an evening that ends with plenty of gin and tonics.
