Supreme Oreos are here, but not everyone is a fan

If there’s one brand that’s good at creating hype, it’s the ridiculously expensive streetwear brand Supreme. And they’ve managed it again: with the arrival of their own Supreme Oreo.

Supreme shared the bright-red cookie on Twitter on Tuesday. And sure enough: the tweet already has over 66 thousand likes and 18 thousand retweets. And Oreo’s tweet is also going through the roof with over 75 thousand likes and 13 thousand retweets. A hype is born.
Clever as they are, the cookie was already ‘leaked’ on Reddit six months ago, creating plenty of buzz. Was it really happening? The tweets confirm that it was.
Criticism of the Supreme Oreos
But not everyone is joining in on the hype. Social media is already full of (admittedly, very funny) memes.

The hugely popular Instagram account Daquan shared this meme with its 14 million followers: “No one’s paying $250 for some Oreos.”

How much the Supreme Oreos cost
Okay, the Supreme Oreos don’t actually cost $250, although knowing Supreme, it easily could have happened. No, they cost “only” $8 (€7.40) for three cookies. Still a lot more expensive than the €1.79 you pay for 20 “regular” Oreos.
Others mainly see them as an expensive rip-off of the red velvet Oreos:

Where to buy the Supreme Oreos
But hey, Oreo and Supreme probably figure that ‘There’s no such thing as bad publicity.’ And judging by those likes, there are plenty of people who are happy about them.
