Tasted and reviewed: the burger from Noma’s burger joint in Copenhagen

burger Popl, Kopenhagen

Eke Bosman, better known as Instagram phenomenon @snackspert, ate his first frikandel as a baby, hates vlammetjes, has devoured at least 1,500 burgers in his lifetime, suspects there is more mayonnaise in his body than blood, and shares his best and worst snack reviews on FavorFlav. This time, Snackspert headed to Copenhagen, where he ate a divine, star-level burger. Once back home, there was the low point: vegetarian meatballs from Unox.

Burger from Noma’s burger joint Popl, Copenhagen

Shall we get straight to the best tips for Copenhagen? Oh yes. Later this week, I’ll make a guide to this beautiful city, but in the coming period I’ll occasionally take a closer look at some of the places in the Danish city that you absolutely must visit. Seriously. Popl is one of them: yes people, the Noma burger joint that was founded during lockdown to make people happy with Noma food after all. And yes dear people, thank God Popl has become a keeper. Phew, that burger is insane. The meat (there are vegetarian options too) is of exceptionally high quality, the sauce is indescribably delicious and yes, I normally love it, but the cheese is HEAVENLY. I preferably like it melted, but this aged cheese is so delicious, so wonderfully cheesy. You don’t want to have this one melted. The only downside is the bun, unfortunately a little too dry. A bun like that should be soft as a hug. But otherwise: almost perfect. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ½

Vegetarian meatballs in tomato sauce from Unox

Well hello everyone, happy New Year, but, um, you’re probably all hungover, so I thought I’d start the year with a hangover from a New Year’s Day dip—er, snack, because Unox’s vegetarian meatballs in tomato sauce are just as disappointing as that one New Year’s party where it was far too crowded and the beer cost three times as much. There. The meatballs have a good texture, that’s for sure, but the taste is really subpar. Cardboardy, mainly, which isn’t something you really want in your mouth, right? No, back to the drawing board with these meatballs. ⭐️⭐️

French fries and chicken corn dog from Bongusta, Amsterdam Sloterdijk

I wrote about it in @pshetparool a while ago: I genuinely think the vegetarian (or vegan) chicken corn dog is much tastier than the regular one. There, I said it. But it’s kind of like being happier with something from Easytoys than with your partner’s skills, but hey, stranger things have happened in life this year. The vegetarian chicken corn dog is available in many places throughout the country, by the way; I got mine at Bongusta by Amsterdam Sloterdijk station. Known for its broodje moksi, but as far as I’m concerned, they can also be known as a very good snack bar where you can get such delicious vegetarian chicken corn dogs. I honestly find the inside of the regular chicken corn dog much drier and less flavorful, while the vegetarian chicken here is considerably juicier. I have that with chicken snacks in general, by the way: often dry and often poor-quality meat = such a waste of the meat. Bongusta’s fries were perfectly fine, by the way—nothing to complain about here. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
