Tasty initiative: Jumbo launches special Borrelbrood

This week is Zero Waste Week. A week in which we all try to waste as little food as possible. Important, because a quarter of all the food produced still goes uneaten. Not only by consumers, but also by supermarkets—and that’s why they are doing their bit during Zero Waste Week too. Jumbo, for example, has launched a new Borrelbrood.

If you’re having drinks this weekend but have no idea what snacks to put on the table, a Borrelbrood is your saviour. You can make a Borrelbrood yourself using a ready-made loaf with brie, pesto, bacon and red onion. Or choose the easy—and waste-free—option and buy one at Jumbo.

Jumbo Borrelbrood

At all Jumbo Foodmarkt bakeries, you can pick up a fresh La Place loaf every day. However, not all the loaves are sold, and there are often some left over. A shame, because those unsold loaves are still delicious to eat the next day. That’s why Jumbo is now turning them into Borrelbrood.

The loaves (white, brown or spelt) are topped with mozzarella, tomato and pesto. At home, all you need to do is put the Borrelbrood in the oven for a few minutes. Meanwhile, you can pour the wine.
