Tested: these are the tastiest and worst 30+ cheeses from the supermarket

Voorverpakte kaas Albert Heijn

Watching your figure a little, but still enjoy cheese on your bread? Then you choose 30+ cheese. It contains less fat than regular cheese, which saves you a few calories. The downside: the cheese has less flavor. Which low-fat cheese tastes best? De Telegraaf found out.

Those figures on cheese are a little confusing, so the newspaper explains them. With 48+ cheese, the fat content of the dry matter in the cheese is more than 48 percent. That cheese is a lot fattier than 30+ cheese, which is why dietitians advise: if you want to get rid of your big butt, you should eat low-fat cheese. The fact that you won’t quickly grab an extra slice of that low-fat cheese is an added benefit, because the less fat, the less flavor. The tasting panel at De Telegraaf put it to the test and compared 30+ cheeses from supermarkets.

Medal-worthy!

According to the panel, the winner is Beemster young matured 30+ cheese. Deliciously full flavor, thick slices and the most bite, so it deserves a medal around its neck. The worst cheese comes from Maaslander: dry, hard, just like plastic. The tasters are also merciless when it comes to Albert Heijn’s 30+ cheese, which they find completely tasteless, while Dirk’s cheese is described as limp and flavorless. Fortunately, Albert Heijn’s Zaanse Hoeve cheese passed muster (fifth place), as did Plus’s 30+ cheese (third place).

Molenland

No supermarket selling Beemster cheese nearby? Aldi’s own-brand cheese, Molenland, also scored very well, coming in second in the test. Fourth place: Milbona, Lidl’s own brand.
