Rome

According to TripAdvisor, tourists mainly go to Rome for a food tour off the beaten track outside the city center, but we’ll tell you how you can easily get through your vacation in Rome on your own while eating your way around. The best breakfast (with a cornetto: a sweet croissant), the tastiest gelato and the finest aperitivo.

Florence

When you’re in Florence, you absolutely have to go to Pasticceria Nencioni. FavorFlav’s Emma could hardly tear herself away during her vacation in Italy. For more food tips in Florence, read where else she went.

Paris

Paris is the city of love, but also of croissants and éclairs. Where else should you go while you’re there? Laurent Dubois’s cheese paradise and Cafe Charlot. You won’t be bored for a moment.

Barcelona

In Barcelona, you go for pintxos, baby octopus and delicious paella, but also for calçots with romesco sauce, a glass of good vermouth and crema Catalana. We found out where in Barcelona you can eat them best.

New Orleans

In New Orleans, you eat beignets and other forms of greasy but oh-so-delicious fritters. According to TripAdvisor, the most popular food tour in this city takes you through the French Quarter, and that doesn’t sound bad at all. Beignets are officially French, after all, non?

New York

It doesn’t matter what budget you’re living on: in New York, you can enjoy yourself with fifty euros a day as well as with one hundred euros. In the mood for something sweet? Donuts will be flying at you from all directions, but be sure to try Levain Bakery’s legendary chocolate chip cookies and everything from Christina Tosi’s Milk Bar too. Her crack pie will haunt your dreams for weeks. Prefer savory food? Visit as many typical New York delis as possible, where you can eat the pastrami sandwich of your life (Katz’s or Eisenberg’s, for example).

Venice

The Netflix series Somebody Feed Phil showed us just how incredibly delicious the incredibly touristy city of Venice can be. We already knew that, of course, because we had already happily eaten our way through all of Venice. Be sure to try the many moeche fritte (deep-fried fish on a stick) and cicchetti (Venice-style tapas) you’ll come across, paired with (lots of) good wine. Phil did the same and had the time of his life.

Madrid

In Madrid, too, you can feast on paella and fish. Or fish paella. And fill up completely on tapas. Be sure to try as much jamón ibérico, boquerones en vinagre (anchovies) and Manchego as possible.

Iberico ham

Tokyo

Tokyo is paradise for late-night snackers, nighttime hunger attacks and food market fans. And even with a somewhat smaller budget, you can eat deliciously in generally expensive Japan. Good places to eat can be found on every street corner. Ramen, tonkatsu or sushi: Emma came, saw and conquered every dish. Are you mainly going for the perfect Instagram post or for the city’s bizarre side? You’ll find the craziest snacks and sweets right on Tokyo’s streets.

Bangkok

In Bangkok, too, you can indulge at the night markets. From our beloved mango sticky rice to pad Thai: every evening, you’ll fill your belly with street food from Thailand. The best market for eating might well be the Rod Fai market.
