The courtyard of Amsterdam’s Hermitage Museum is being transformed into a culinary wonderland filled with stalls (free entry)

Markt Hermitage

I love Amsterdam’s courtyards full of surprises (check out the loveliest and most beautiful courtyards in Amsterdam here), and I’ve found a fun newcomer. On Saturdays, there’s a market in the garden of the Hermitage Amsterdam, filled with delicious food from the city.

You’ll have to be patient just a little longer: the first market will take place on Saturday, 5 March. From that date onwards, the courtyard of Amsterdam’s Hermitage Museum will be transformed every Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. into a market filled with stalls selling products from Dutch soil (and most of them come from as close to Amsterdam as possible). Think vegetables, fresh pasta, roast chicken, fish, dairy and bread. Almost all the makers are at the market themselves, and they’ll be happy to tell you about the origin and quality of their products and how they work.

Participating producers

You can buy pastries, bread and croissants from Fort Negen, and that alone is worth the trip to the Hermitage. The following producers also have a stall at the market:

  • Kitchenfreaks with their granola
  • Organic vegetables and fruit from Antoniushoeve
  • North Sea fish from De Viskot
  • Meat from De herkomst and game from Wild van Wild
  • Olives and olive oil from Olives & More
  • Fresh pasta from Casalinga (a top spot for truly authentic Italian food!)
  • Amsterdam bone broth from The Brothel
  • Wood-roasted chicken from Style Culinair
  • Pickles and more from THULL’S Deli
  • Dairy from MOMA and cheeses from Kef
  • Pure classic Italian desserts from Baked by Salvo.

The entrance is via the Amstel, and admission is free. Tip: visit the Russian Avant-Garde exhibition and then pick up some weekend groceries, and you’ll be fully recharged—culinarily and culturally.
