The flag can fly at two restaurants in the Randstad, as it has just been announced that they will be included in the 2023 Michelin Guide. The honor goes to these two establishments:

Rotonde in Rotterdam and Bistro de la Mer in Amsterdam. What a celebration for these restaurants! Although it is not yet known exactly which distinction they will receive…

First announcement

Because the announcement that they will be included in the guide does not yet say whether these restaurants will receive a Michelin star, the Bib Gourmand designation, or a green star (awarded to restaurants and chefs ‘who hold themselves accountable for their standards in the field of environmental and ethical responsibility’). So the suspense continues for a little while longer, until the guide is officially presented in 2023. Until then, Michelin adds new restaurants to this list every month after visits from its inspectors.

Different guides

And that may be good news for you, because it means you’ll be among the first to know where the quality is. Of course, there are several prestigious restaurant guides – for example, Gault&Millau Belgium recently named Dutch Nick Bril Chef of the Year 2023 for his work at Antwerp’s The Jane.

Already receiving praise

Even before an official distinction is awarded to these two establishments, Michelin is already showing great appreciation for the way they cook. Top chefs Richard van Oostenbrugge and Thomas Groot are at the helm of Bistro de la Mer. ‘This fish cuisine is next level. Retro. Original. And all à la carte! [Friend of FavorFlav] Richard van Oostenbrugge and Thomas Groot are once again surprising us with their idiosyncratic reintroduction of traditional cuisine,’ Michelin writes on its website. And about Rotonde: ‘Sustainability is at the heart of Rotonde, which continues to question itself. That vision translates into creative, intriguing flavor bombs. Surprising. Refined. A seat at the open kitchen is a must if you want to watch the chefs tame the fire of their wood-fired barbecue!’

A Bib or a star

And if you would like to check exactly how the Michelin distinctions work, you can read here about the difference between a Bib Gourmand and a Michelin star.
