The French Culinary ABC in Your Pocket

Stokbroden

Imagine: you’re on vacation in France, enjoying a lovely meal out, and you’d prefer to simply point to something on the menu without having to think. But it is nice to know what every French word means. Before you know it, you could have frog legs and snails on your plate.

Fear not, help is on the way. Language institute Interculture has developed an app for Android and Apple, so you’ll never have to wonder again. The app ‘Culinary French A-Z’ contains 12,500 entries that you can use in any challenging culinary situation. Even when you’re not in trouble or unsure, it’s of course fun to be able to show off words like ‘andouillettes‘, ‘brandade de morue‘ and ‘crème frangipane‘.

Wines, cheeses and sayings

In addition to a French-Dutch and Dutch-French culinary dictionary, the app also includes a separate ‘Wine A-Z’ and a ‘Cheese A-Z’. If you want to ask a sommelier a specific question about the wine you’re drinking, the grape it’s made from, or simply tell them that you don’t like it: Wine A-Z is what you need.

Finally, the French sayings will help you have a slightly more animated conversation than just ‘une baguette, s’il vous plaît‘.

More information

You can find the Culinary French A-Z app in the Android or Apple app store. For just €2.99, you’ll be impressing everyone with your extensive vocabulary from now on.
