The Hague Food Festival

From 15 to 23 July, you have to be in The Hague. At The Hague Food Festival, the best chefs from 070 cook a five-course dinner together, you can take part in a wine-and-food pairing walk, and learn everything about coffee.

Food festivals are popping up everywhere. The Hague naturally couldn’t be left behind. After a number of other successful festivals, The Hague Food Festival is being organised for the first time this year. For nine days, various events will be organised throughout the city. These are the highlights:

Food & drink trail

On Saturday 15 July, you can take part in a wine-and-food pairing walk. From 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., you’ll visit ten restaurants in and around the Bierkade for a snack and a matching glass of wine. A ticket costs €20.

Curry Leaf Café pop-up kitchen

Master chef Kanthi Thamma will be cooking in the kitchen of Kompaan brewery on Saturday 15 July. His Curry Leaf Café in Brighton is a household name in England. In The Hague, South Indian street food will be paired with five different types of beer from Kompaan’s brewery. Tickets for the dinner + matching beers cost €25.

Food lab

The biggest chefs in The Hague will join forces on Sunday 16 July. Together, they will cook a five-course dinner at Publique restaurant. For €50, you can join them at the table. For an additional €38.50, you can add a wine pairing.

A taste of Normandy

At Brasserie Beekink & Co, you can eat fish soup and fruits de mer on Thursday 20 July. Wash it down with wine and cider. A ticket costs €45.

Coffee masterclasses

During the coffee cupping workshop (Sunday 23 July, 10:00 a.m.), you’ll learn to taste coffee and recognise quality based on its fragrance, aromas and aftertaste. After this one-and-a-half-hour session, you’ll always choose the right bean. Are you a coffee freak and would you love to know how to roast your own beans? Then take the coffee-roasting masterclass (Sunday 23 July, 3:00 p.m.). The workshops are held at Capriole Café. For €32.50, you’ll be a pro.

Party

The festival concludes at Huijgenspark on 22 and 23 July. Browse the market stalls where restaurateurs and local entrepreneurs offer their products, and watch a live cooking show with a glass of wine in your hand. Admission is free.
