The McDonald’s Dipping Sauces We Really Want Back

So you were perfectly content with your eternal BBQ sauce or sweet and sour? Oh oh oh, you really don’t know what you’re missing. Sure, your Chicken McNuggets taste absolutely delicious with them, but there’s so much more. Only Maccie’s being so stingy by not giving us that.

And why? No idea! In the United States, for example, they already have ranch dressing as an option, and I really miss that here. Or what about blue cheese dressing with chicken wings? Chicken wings should really be back on the menu as a standard item anyway. Okay—I’m getting sidetracked. But the fact is that these dipping sauces are no longer on the menu, and that’s a real shame.
These McDonald’s dipping sauces should return to the menu ASAP
1. Szechuan dipping sauce
This dipping sauce became incredibly popular because of an episode of Rick & Morty, even though it was no longer on the menu at the time. It became quite the thing, as McDonald’s employees all over the world were harassed with questions about where this dipping sauce had gone. It was on the menu in 1998, and was briefly brought back in 2017, 2018 and 2022. That resulted in gigantic queues and even fights at Maccie’s. So, why don’t you just put it on the menu permanently? Sounds delicious to me. Want to try it sooner? Buy it on Ebay, starting at 6 dollars. Yep, you read that right. Stock up if they ever bring it back: it’s worth its weight in gold.
2. Chipotle BBQ
Like the Szechuan dip, this one sounds delicious too. The BBQ sauce they have now is great, but a little sweet. How good would it be if it had that spicy Chipotle kick? Divine.
3. Teriyaki
Ehh, YES PLEASE. In general, I think the dipping sauces at Maccie’s could be a little more exciting. Of course, we have the best McDonald’s fries sauce in the world in the Netherlands (that’s a fact, not an opinion), but otherwise I don’t find our sauce selection all that exciting. Bring the teriyaki back, please.
4. Hot Mustard
Admittedly, this one sounds a little strange to me. Mustard is already kind of spicy by itself, right? I don’t particularly need this one to return, because I’m not a fan of mustard. I even prefer eating bitterballen with mayonnaise… So with Chicken McNuggets? Doesn’t sound good to me.
5. Zesty Italian
Hmm, I don’t really taste anything Italian in the Chicken McNuggets, so I’m not entirely sure about this one either. Although I do think it would be a great combination if they released a limited edition Italian version with Chicken McNuggets. Or even better: mozzarella sticks with Italian dressing? AMAZING.
6. Green Chili Salsa
I think Maccie’s simply decided at some point to remove all spicy items from the menu. Because the spicy nuggets they currently have are far from spicy. Although I suspect they would taste pretty good with this dipping sauce.
7. Sweet Chili Sauce
This dip was compared by the website Serious Eats to a duck sauce with chili flakes. Not exactly what I would expect from Sweet Chili Sauce, but apparently we can recreate it to test it.
