The Tastiest Cheese in the Netherlands

We Dutch people love cheese. So much so that we eat as much as 17 kilos of cheese per person every year, but what is the very best? That was announced yesterday during the Dutch National Cheese Judging Competition in Nijkerk.

During the competition, awards were presented in the categories Gouda Cheese 48+ Extra Matured and Goat Cheese 50+ Aged. This was done by the Centre for Taste Research. For a week, a consumer panel tasted all the cheeses in those categories. Um, where can I sign up for next year? The winners are as follows:
Gouda Cheese 48+ Extra Matured
Gold: Smeuïg Pikant Puur – De Groot-Verburg Kaas in Bodegraven
Silver: De Graafstroom – De Graafstroom in Bleskensgraaf
Bronze: Holland Master – Royal FrieslandCampina in Amersfoort
Type of Goat Cheese 50+ Aged
Gold: Goat Cheese Brabant – Amalthea B.V. in Rijen
Silver: Rouveens Roem Geit – Rouveen Kaasspecialiteiten in Rouveen
Bronze: Chevretta Oud – Treur Kaas in Woerden
