These 15 portions in the US prove that obesity makes sense here… (part 1)

Ah, America. The country has fascinated me enormously for years. Also fascinating: the food culture. If it can even be called a food culture. In any case… it’s quite something. There are plenty of snacks that Americans consider perfectly normal and we find, to put it mildly, unusual. Cheese from a spray can, anyone? Another typical feature of American food culture is the unhealthy scale of the food (a sad example being the American school lunches). And that everything—quite literally everything—has to be big, bigger, biggest.

And that really makes my Dutch clogs crack. Pizzas as big as UFOs, ice cream sundaes reaching the ceiling, hot dogs as long as my hockey stick… What is this? Who wants this? And above all: who on earth can finish this?! The bizarre thing is that Americans are the fastest eaters in the world, so there’s a pretty good chance that an XXXXXL portion like that will be polished off in no time. Did I mention that I find America fascinating?
