New superfood: moringa

We know goji berries and wheatgrass by now. It’s time for a new superfood. The leaves of the moringa tree contain lots of calcium, potassium, protein, and vitamins A, B, C, D and E. You’ll soon find the powder in shakes and breakfasts.

Cows that eat only grass

For a long time, cows were fed all kinds of things to keep them as strong as possible.  That’s different now. But what the cow eats ends up in the milk or meat, and this can affect the consumer’s health. So it’s back to basics. The cow simply eats grass.

Understandable ingredients

A packet of cookies from the supermarket often contains far more ingredients, fillers or other things than just flour, sugar and butter. That’s going to change, because many people want to eat less processed food. From now on, that means as few clear and understandable ingredients as possible on the packaging.

Drinks made from plants

Drinking soft drinks is becoming less and less popular. Instead, people are switching to drinks made from plants, such as coconut water and aloe vera juice.

Jackfruit as a meat substitute

Tofu was the number-one meat substitute for a long time, but jackfruit is joining it as a new option. The fruit absorbs other flavors very well and has a meaty texture. That makes it easy for manufacturers to use it to make meat substitutes.

Spirulina as a natural coloring

A lot of artificial coloring is used for many types of candy. That’s going to change. Instead, we’re seeing more natural colorings, such as spirulina (for M&M’s, for example) and turmeric.
