We almost always love discovering new wines, and when that introduction is also accompanied by incredibly good food, we practically burst with happiness. That was also the case at the tasting of these bold Argentinian wines from winery Luigi Bosca.

Winery Luigi Bosca recently introduced us to an impressive line-up of wines at the fantastic restaurant Sagardi. As a winery, Luigi Bosca has a rich tradition, and Mendoza, the region where the wines have been made for four generations, offers the perfect terroir for their elegant wines. You really have to try them.

Guests at top restaurant Sagardi

Incidentally, Sagardi is not an Argentinian restaurant but a Basque one, yet it was the ideal setting. They cook incredibly well here, and the steaks that came off the grill were so good they were unbeatable. FavorFlav’s Sharon already told you how good Sagardi is, and we’ll emphasize it once more: you really want to eat here at least once.

The fish dishes are also sublime, and the atmosphere is homely and earthy. In summer, you can sit right by the Amsterdam canal, but it’s just as pleasant inside. You do have to climb a flight of stairs to reach the restroom, so that may be something to take into account.

A rich wine history

But back to the Luigi Bosca wines, because that’s what we came for. Bodega Luigi Bosca was founded as early as 1901, making it the oldest winery in Argentina still owned by the founding family. The Mendoza wine region lies at the foot of the Andes, and the climate and soil there force the vines to work hard to absorb nutrients and moisture. It is said of wines made from these already fairly bold grapes that they are firm in tannins and that you can (very pleasantly) taste the minerals from the soil.

White, red, they can do it all

My personal favorites were the White Blend, made from chardonnay, sauvignon blanc and sémillon grapes, and the Malbec, both from Luigi Bosca’s De Sangre range. Malbec is generally the region’s flagship grape, and this one was powerful, balanced and absolutely delicious with the giant premium steak prepared by Sagardí’s chefs. The White Blend, in turn, was superb with the firm, fresh monkfish.

Affordable luxury

Luigi Bosca makes red and white wines in various price categories. They are available online from approximately €13.95, with a few outliers in the more exclusive Los Nobles range at around €43.95. There is plenty of deliciousness to be found in between, and we wholeheartedly recommend buying these wines.

As mentioned, the red wines are ideal with steak, but they would also be right at home with a hearty vegetarian dish. The white wines are also perfect with a meal, or with drinks and snacks that are fuller in flavor.

You can find Luigi Bosca wines online at various wine webshops, including perfectewijn.nl
