Things people really hate hearing in restaurants

When you go out to eat and someone at the table asks, ‘Are you familiar with our concept?’ Many guests really hate that. Once, someone responded: ‘Yes, you cook for me, and I pay.’ But there are many more things people hate hearing in restaurants. Sound familiar?

Okay, let’s kick things off with an oldie but goodie….
Our concept
“Are you familiar with our concept?” That one is just TOO MUCH! I literally once walked out of a restaurant when the waiter asked me that question.
I just wanted to grab a bite to eat and not deal with stupid fancy nonsense like “food sharing” and other idiocy. (I was alone, who am I supposed to share with? The table next to me or something?) Just give me a menu and let me choose a dish. The sentence “Are you familiar with our concept?” clearly told me that this wasn’t an option there. So my answer was: “No, and after asking me that question, I’d like to keep it that way, so bye and not see you again.” – Jurgen

Using diminutives
Waiters who are constantly using diminutives. A lot of people hate that. But apparently, it can also be given a positive spin. ‘If you also make the amount on the bill smaller, you won’t hear me complain.‘ – Erwin. Pieter completely agrees: ‘Sure. I’ll just leave a tip.’
Everything in the past tense
‘People who address you in the past tense are at least as irritating. “Would you have fancied something to drink or eat?”. Yes, actually I would have fancied a red wine and a ribeye, but never mind now.‘ – Arnold

And most ridiculous of all: using English words when perfectly good Dutch ones are available. – Lianne
