This baking ingredient makes cleaning your grimy shower incredibly easy
If there’s one multifunctional ingredient in the kitchen, it’s baking soda. It’s essential in some sweet bakes (in this insanely delicious gin and tonic cake, for example) and also takes certain savoury dishes to the next level. For example, did you know that your potatoes become extra crispy when you bake them with baking soda? Genius! And take that ‘multifunctional in the kitchen’ literally. Because you can also use baking soda in all kinds of ways in your actual kitchen, namely as a cleaning agent.
Cleaning with baking soda: it’s a trick your grandma has probably been using for years. We’re incredibly grateful to her for this tip. Because by now we know that baking soda is perfect for cleaning your extractor hood, dishwasher and stained teacups. And what about those horrible rings on your induction hob? Put baking soda (with lemon) on them and they disappear in no time. A classic case of ‘I wish I’d known this years ago’. Admittedly, you can’t use baking soda for absolutely everything. But it will leave plenty of things around the house sparkling clean. And not just in your kitchen. What about the stains on your mattress and the shower in your bathroom?
Cleaning your shower with baking soda
Although the shower is meant to clean you, it gets increasingly dirtier itself over the years. Makes sense, with all those soap residues and bacteria left behind on the tiles. Luckily, there’s baking soda: your life saver in the battle against a filthy shower cubicle. What do you need to do? First, make sure the shower floor is covered with a layer of warm water. It doesn’t need to be much; a small layer is enough. Then add some vinegar. One third of a litre bottle is sufficient. Done?
Then add approximately 3 tablespoons of baking soda to the vinegar-and-water mixture. Take a cloth and wet the edges (which aren’t covered by the vinegar-and-water mixture). Leave it to soak in for 1 to 2 hours. Finally, let the mixture drain away and rinse the shower tray with clean water. That’s it! *immediately buys baking soda in bulk*
