This butcher sells the tastiest meatball in the Netherlands
Meatballs are typically something many people make themselves. Learned from their mother, following their grandmother’s recipe. And as their kitchen skills develop, the humble meatball can easily be adapted to a multitude of flavors (feta in your meatball—great idea!) But sometimes you fancy a tasty meatball, yet simply don’t have the time. Fortunately, you can also buy an exceptionally good meatball at the butcher’s.
At Keurslager Jongmans in Klundert, you can even get the tastiest one in the country. This is the winner of the 2024 Lekkerste Bal Gehakt competition. The professional competition for the tastiest meatball is organized every year by the trade association for artisan butchers, the Koninklijke Nederlandse Slagers (KNS).
The 10 finalists for the 2024 Lekkerste Bal Gehakt were announced recently. “The finalists’ meatballs have a fantastic flavor and composition. Ultimately, the final verdict comes down to the overall picture of professional aspects,” said jury chairman Ron Kinkelaar.
Tastiest meatball in the country
According to the jury, the winning meatball stood out for its deliciously authentic, traditional flavor and satisfying bite. And this was no ordinary winner. Keurslager Jongmans won the prestigious title ‘Lekkerste Bal Gehakt’ for the 3rd time! His meatballs also came out on top in 2019 and 2022 in the professional competition for artisan butchers.
This is a butcher’s shop that is well worth taking a detour for, because Jongmans’ meatballs aren’t the only thing worth trying.

At the butcher’s shop founded in 1934, grandson Jean-Pierre is now at the chopping block. Under his leadership, the business has already won many awards;

The second prize for the tastiest meatball went to Keurslager Arisse Vleesch (nomen est omen!) from Beesd. Keurslager De Jong from Gilze received the third prize.
