This establishment has been voted the best pizzeria in the world in 2023

beste pizzeria ter wereld

‘I’m craving a Calzonèèè pizza, no, I don’t want a regulèèè one… Folded in half, just let it comèèè. Ah, what a wonderful song that is — and I think every pizza lover knows it. And then you probably won’t be able to get it out of your head all day. Sorry about that.

But if you’re a true pizza lover, you also know how seriously this is taken. A Hawaiian pizza? Not a real pizza. French fries on pizza? That is allowed, but only in Naples. And Neapolitan pizzas are a concept in their own right; the base must be made without a rolling pin, and it is softer and wetter than that of, for example, a pizza from Rome (where they are allowed to use a rolling pin).

The 50 best in the world

I’m absolutely not averse to New York-style slices either, although I’m less enthusiastic about Detroit Deep Dish pizzas… Well, so many pizzas, so many options, but where can you find the very best in the world?

Fortunately, we don’t have to test all the pizzerias in the world ourselves, because others already do that for us. It’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it… So thanks for that, 50 Top Pizza. The name gives it away: every year, this site selects the 50 best pizzerias in the world.

And the winner is…

This year’s winner is 10 Diego Vitagliano Pizzeria, located in Naples. It actually has more locations, in Rome, Pozzuoli and even Doha (Qatar), but just to be clear: the one in Naples was voted the ultimate number one.

Traditional Neapolitan pizzas are on the menu here, but owner Diego does move with the times: you can also order them gluten-free.

Last year, by the way, there was a different number one, namely I Masanielli. You’ll find this pizzeria in Caserta, a small town north of Naples. They weren’t rewarded with first place this year, but I’m guessing you’ll still be in very good hands here.
