indiaas eten geheim ingredient

I love the delicious flavors of Indian cuisine, but until now I haven’t really had the courage to cook Indian food myself at home. Emphasis on ‘until now’, because with this handy tip, I might actually get much better at it. Indian cuisine is known for its rich flavors, and it has always been a challenge for me to create that perfect balance of spices and flavors at home, so that it can rival the delicious Indian dishes you eat in restaurants.

Until now, I hadn’t managed it, but I’m now aware of this ‘secret ingredient.’

You should always add this ingredient to your Indian dishes

The ingredient in question is something they have been using in all their dishes in India for years. In fact, it is highly revered in the Indian culinary world. And that ingredient is: millet. These are small grains that belong to the cereal family, and they are also incredibly healthy because they are packed with fiber. There are several ways to use them in Indian cuisine.

Using millet

For example, you can use millet in an Indian pancake called dosa, but you can also cook millet (just like rice). Millet is also often served with curries or in a salad—but if you ferment millet yourself (soak it overnight and then turn it into a paste), you can also make snacks such as Dhokla.

Honestly, try making a dish with millet (millets in English) sometime, for example with butter chicken. Bring water to a boil, add the millet and turn off the heat. Let it sit like this for 18 to 20 minutes, until all the liquid has been absorbed. Then fluff it thoroughly with a fork and let it rest for another 10 minutes. After this, you’ll never want anything else, promise.
