A ship carrying bottles of Heidsieck Diamant Bleu 1907 was on its way to St. Petersburg in 1916, on order from Tsar Nicholas II. However, the bottles never reached him: along the way, the ship was sunk by a torpedo from a German submarine. In 1998, they were recovered from the Baltic Sea and, once inspected and deemed to be in excellent condition, auctioned for more than two hundred thousand euros apiece. We will probably never find out what the bottle tastes like. What we do know is that this is the most expensive bottle of champagne ever. Cha-ching!
