An ingredient that will probably give you an extra red nose, too.

The secret ingredient for the most delicious hot chocolate

Hot chocolate is incredibly sweet on its own. It could use a little kick, right? Especially if you want it to warm you up properly. In that case, one ingredient is the ultimate addition to your hot cocoa. Red wine, of course! And the reasoning behind it is actually very simple. Red wine and chocolate are already an amazing combination. Chocolate is sweet, while red wine is fruity and spicy. Depending on which red wine you choose, of course, but those flavour characteristics balance each other beautifully. It’s not for nothing that red wine is also a great addition to brownies, for example.

It also reminds me of my trip to South Africa, where you could do a wine and chocolate tasting at many vineyards. Highly recommended.

More boozy chocs

Adding red wine to your hot chocolate is also a very smart way to use up that last bit of wine. Yes, I know you could also drink the wine yourself, of course, but hot chocolate with wine is much more fun. In the mood for more boozy chocs? We also always think hot chocolate with Baileys is a winner. And for those celebrating carnival: Flügel hot chocolate is the drink you want to serve when you want to warm up inside between dancing in the streets.
