First Dutch hot chocolate shop opens in Amsterdam

Forget pumpkin spice lattes, because this winter is all about hot, creamy, artisanal hot chocolate! And where better to get this ultimate winter treat? At MOCA (Mokum Cacao), the very first shop in the Netherlands dedicated entirely to hot chocolate. Visit the cozy Amsterdam neighborhood of De Pijp for a steaming cup full of nostalgia.

MOCA: Amsterdam’s new pop-up for artisanal hot chocolate
In a small pop-up shop at Eerste van der Helststraat 27, hot chocolate is once again the star of winter. The idea for MOCA came about when young Amsterdammers Vito de Levita (22) and Zeb Terwee (24) saw people dipping their croissants into hot chocolate during a trip to Paris.
From cart to shop
They thought it was a fantastic idea and brought the experience to Amsterdam. What started as a small cart at the Albert Cuyp Market grew into the first shop in the Netherlands dedicated entirely to hot, artisanal hot chocolate.
Hot chocolate with an Amsterdam twist
The shop is small, but the experience is big: think glossy marshmallow rims, tiramisu-flavored whipped cream, stroopwafel crumbs and a generous sprinkle of coziness. Upon entering, you are greeted by the aroma of fresh cacao and can immerse yourself in a world of creamy, steaming hot chocolate.
Whether you choose the classic version with whipped cream and marshmallows or a unique flavor such as Speculaas hot chocolate (which smells of Christmas and cinnamon), the possibilities are endless. And yes, there is also a vegan version (made with coconut milk).
What makes MOCA so special?
MOCA aims to give hot chocolate the respect it deserves. The chocolate they use comes from Heinde & Verre, a Dutch bean-to-bar maker that has already won international awards. The quality is top-notch. And it is combined with a touch of Amsterdam’s trademark cheekiness.
As the founders themselves say: “Everyone knows hot chocolate, but no one had ever made it truly delicious and fun.”
Want to try it? MOCA’s specials
Whether you like a classic cup of hot chocolate (5 euros) or something more creative (with marshmallow!), MOCA is guaranteed to have something that makes your winter day just a little better. Want something extra festive? Then the Speculaas hot chocolate is a must-try, especially for the holiday season.
And don’t worry: if you don’t like speculaas or hate Christmas, you can always choose a version with tiramisu (6.50 euros) or matcha (6 euros).
