This is the tastiest apple you can buy at the supermarket

Juicy, intensely sweet, crisp with a hint of tartness and a satisfying bite: isn’t that the very best when it comes to apples? The Netherlands has an incredible number of apple varieties, but the relatively new SPRANK was recently voted the public’s favourite. I can only agree: this is the tastiest apple you can buy at the supermarket.

I get quite a shock every time I buy a pack of four apples and have to pay more than three euros for them – which the teenager eats one after another in fifteen minutes. (That’s why we’ve been calling for years to make fruit and vegetables VAT-free). SPRANK apples aren’t cheap either: a box of four normally costs €3.29, but during the promotion (starting next Monday) you’ll pay less than two euros. This is the time to buy them.
Local apple
SPRANK first appeared on Albert Heijn’s shelves at the end of 2020. Since its launch, AH SPRANK has been praised for its characteristic flavour: juicy, intensely sweet with a slight tartness and a satisfying bite. It’s a local product; together with established apple growers in the fruit-growing regions (Betuwe, Zeeland, North Brabant, Limburg, Utrecht and Flevoland), the supermarket chain spent two years developing this new apple.

SPRANK
The name? No doubt an entire marketing team worked on it. With a brainstorming session in which people shout things like, ‘The name should suggest something bold’, ‘Something with a refreshing spring breeze’, ‘Something modern, but also playful, timeless and full of character.’ ‘Something sparkling!’ Applause follows. But wait, it can be shorter. ‘And in capital letters!’ Behold: SPRANK.
Best Product of the Year
This year, the AH SPRANK apple received the highest consumer rating in the Best Product of the Year election and will therefore be the overall Best Product of the Year for the coming year. Around 230 products took part in the election, and more than 57,000 consumers cast their votes. Don’t use it for this brilliant apple trick for your car; just eat that delicious, award-winning SPRANK!
