This Is the Whopper You Absolutely Do Not Want to Try

Never change a winning team is what I think, and that definitely applies to fast-food chains. I’d be pretty annoyed if Maccie suddenly decided to change the ingredients of the Big Mac. What if they suddenly switched to a different sauce?! I think there would be riots. And that’s why I don’t quite understand why Burger King is willing to take the risk: they revamped their Whopper.

Fortunately, not in the Netherlands, so don’t get upset. In America, they introduced the Whopper Melt, and as delicious as that sounds, I’m going to pass on it.

A Burger Shouldn’t Be Served on Bread

I used to work in a café near Leidseplein in Amsterdam, which was very cozy but also packed with tourists during the day. We had several types of burgers, which were our bestsellers, but sometimes the Italian rolls they were served on weren’t ordered properly and we would run out. The first time that happened while I worked there, they immediately decided to serve the burger on white bread instead.

Sorry?! Of course I made a huge fuss about it, because as a burger lover, I really didn’t think that was acceptable. And now, in 2022, that’s exactly what Burger King has started doing. That’s right: the Whopper Melt is served between two slices of toast. It also consists of two burgers, two slices of cheddar, caramelized onion (which does sound very good) and Stacker sauce. It all actually sounds delicious—except for the toast.
