This Remarkable Dish Has Been Named the World’s Best Dish of 2025

We’re already almost halfway through 2025—have you tried the best dish of the year yet? TasteAtlas has announced the 100 Best Dishes in the World awards, and the dish in first place is quite remarkable. One that requires a pretty strong stomach, at the very least.

I’d bet you would never, ever think of a dish like this if you were asked about the best dish in the world. It’s not a delicious Italian pasta, a richly filled French stew or a spicy Thai delicacy. And no, it’s not a tasty dessert either.
The best dish of 2025: Lechona
So what is it? According to TasteAtlas, we need to go to Colombia to eat the best dish of 2025. The world’s highest-rated dish can be found there, and it’s called Lechona. We already warned you that you need a strong stomach for this meal. Because if you eat a portion of Lechona, you’re eating a large piece of pork stuffed with onions, rice, peas, pork fat, herbs and spices.

The pig is roasted for hours. As a result, it develops an incredibly crunchy crust. You know, the kind of crust that makes an ear-splitting crack when you cut through it. Lechona is absolutely packed with flavor—thanks to the crust, but also to the rich, well-seasoned filling. It’s just rather… a lot. Lechona is not served at large gatherings and celebrations for nothing. One stuffed pig can easily feed 100 people. Hence the need for that strong stomach.
Highest-rated
Are you outraged because you can’t stand pork or have never even heard of Lechona? TasteAtlas named it the best dish of 2025 because it received the highest ratings on their site. From their database of 11,258 dishes and 367,847 reviews, lechona scored the highest: 4.78 out of 5 stars. I have to say, I was in Colombia five years ago, but somehow this dish completely passed me by. Sounds like a good reason to go back, I’d say.
