Time for a new kitchen, and you happen to have a million lying around?
If money is sloshing against the baseboards (of the kitchen) in your home, then perhaps it’s time for a new kitchen! And if you have roughly a million dollars to spare, this kitchen could be yours…
The Equinox One, reports AD, is the brainchild of the company Hoog Design, which developed ‘the most expensive kitchen in the world’ together with the equally Dutch company Culimaat from Berlicum. Hoog Design founder Maarten van den Hoogen from Helmond designs interiors for the super-rich with his company and hopes to conquer the US and Dubai after the Benelux, he told AD. And what do you get for a million?
Beyond the Ikea catalogue
Hoog Design publishes catalogues in which the best designers in the fields of furniture, gardens and kitchens showcase their work and services. Don’t think of the IKEA catalogue that used to land in your letterbox every year, but rather huge, weighty books that weigh kilos. Inside, you’ll find the most exclusive designs and materials. What is the Equinox One made of? Ray skin, refrigerator-door handles set with diamonds, gold leaf, rare limestone: the sky’s the limit.
There are requirements, though
But if you’re thinking ‘I want that’ while living in a canal house? Then you’re seriously out of luck. The kitchen island system requires an underground structure that allows the units to be rotated towards or onto each other. A penthouse or villa is perfect! And don’t worry about making an impulse purchase and ‘accidentally’ placing a million-dollar kitchen in your digital shopping cart next to your online cheese order; everything is calmly handled by order and appointment.
A pantry for every butler
That million dollars is, incidentally, just the starting price. ‘If you want wine coolers and a pantry for the butler included, it may end up costing a little more.’ Er, well, if you’re doing it anyway… The nice thing is that at this price, you’ll probably never have to go near an Allen key again or search for the missing page of the kitchen cabinet instruction manual. The dog ate it. Count your (mental health) savings!
