Tip: PEEJAYS doughnuts

Really good doughnuts are hard to find in the Netherlands—very hard to find. But recently, I spotted PEEJAYS Doughnuts on Amsterdam’s Vijzelgracht and, yes: we have a winner.

The idea behind PEEJAYS began years ago, when two brothers and their father fell in love with doughnuts in the United States. But as I said, they’re almost impossible to find here. So here you have it: their own shop.
Made in-house
Everything is made in-house, so not only the airy doughnuts, but also the jams used in some of them, glazes and toppings. I’ve tasted several flavors by now, and these are my three favorites:
- Maple pecan, because in the US I like them best with just glaze. This one has a maple syrup glaze with pieces of pecan.
- Peanut Butter Jelly with peanut butter glaze and filled with a really good forest berry jam.
- Vanilla disco, because, well, vanilla glaze and colorful sprinkles
But there are plenty more doughnuts, such as seasonal specials, chocolate caramel sea salt, lemon curd meringue and so on. So stop by, order through the website and pick them up at the shop, or have a box delivered—that’s possible here.
