aardbeientaart foodtips

We all watch Netflix and television. Because we have a hangover and are incapable of doing anything else, to learn new things, or simply for fun. Every month, FavorFlav gives you an overview of the most enjoyable, newest and most informative television programs, films and documentaries about food and drink.

In September, summer fun is over and done with for many people. The holidays are over, and bikinis are back in the closet. After a day at the office, naturally you want nothing more than to collapse on the sofa and watch your favorite food programs with a plate of food on your lap.

FavorFlav has put together a list of unmissable food TV in September. Classic favorites are back: a new season of Heel Holland Bakt, Keuringsdienst van Waarde and Koken met van Boven. Let September begin.

De Brabander Bakt

When: from September 4, every weekday at 6:30 p.m. on 24Kitchen.

What:

Hidde de Brabander takes you into the world of pastry. Cakes, creams, cookies, soufflés—all the classics are covered. In addition to basic recipes, Hidde also shows you how to bake showstoppers.
Why watch: Whether you’re a beginner baker or have more experience, Hidde bakes something for everyone.

Koken met van Boven

When: from September 4, every Monday at 8:25 p.m. on NPO2.

What:

Yvette van Boven shares recipes and kitchen tips. She gets her ingredients from growers, fishermen and farmers.
Why watch: Because Yvette van Boven is an excellent cook you can learn a lot from. Her love of food and cooking is infectious.

Kook mee met MAX

When: from September 4, every weekday at 10:15 a.m. on NPO1.

What:

Sandra Ysbrandy and Mounir Toub show you within fifteen minutes what you can cook that same evening.
Why watch: If you find it difficult to answer the question ‘what am I having for dinner tonight?’ every day, this program is the answer. It offers fifteen minutes of cooking inspiration halfway through the morning; by 10:30 a.m. you’re ready to do the shopping, and in the evening you’ll have something delicious on the table in no time. The recipes are always simple and varied.

De Keuringsdienst van Waarde

When: from September 7, every Thursday at 8:25 p.m. on NPO3.

What:

A program that investigates the origins of products. Without prejudice or pretension, but with a healthy dose of curiosity and humor, the first episode of this brand-new season dissects a tin of sardines. Are they even sardines at all?

The second episode is about strawberries. In this episode, appearance and shelf life turn out to be major factors in the strawberry business.
Why watch: The program is informative and entertaining. A must-see for every foodie. Here you can read about my favorite episodes.

Heel Holland Bakt

When: From September 3, every Sunday at 9:00 p.m. on NPO1.

What:

The coziest baking program ever, based on The Great British Bake Off. Baked goods fly around your ears.
Why watch: The concept is simple and slow-paced; there’s nothing better than slouching on the sofa on Sunday evening and watching people bake cakes. And seeing how it sometimes goes wrong. Wonderfully relatable. The presentation by Jannie and Robert is also lovely; they’re honest but kind to the contestants—a breath of fresh air after all those competitive programs where everyone gets torn apart.

Smaakt naar meer

When: From September 6, every Wednesday at 9:25 p.m. on NPO1.

What:

A program for hardcore Heel Holland Bakt fans. Smaakt naar meer looks back at the previous episode of that program.
Why watch: André van Duin sits at the table with three guests each time and discusses with them what happened in the Heel Holland Bakt tent over the previous weekend. The contestants’ ups and downs are analyzed in detail. And of course, that’s hilarious—making a big deal out of the things that really matter in life: pie, cookies and cake.
