Since 1 July, the new plastic regulations have been in force, and tempers are running high over the plastic surcharges you pay everywhere. From frustrated snack bar owners to bewildered supermarket customers: the costs seem to be getting higher and higher, and it seems nobody understands the rules anymore. To reinforce the new regulations, Stichting Nederland Schoon, Milieu Centraal and Zero Waste Nederland are introducing a window sticker that inspires consumers to bring their own reusable packaging.
Preventing waste is better than cleaning it up
Just like asking for a doggy bag in restaurants, many people also feel hesitant about bringing their own containers to shops or hospitality venues. By putting the sticker on the window, business owners clearly signal that customers’ own reusable packaging is welcome in their establishment—and, they hope, that lowers the threshold.
Sounds like a good idea to us, because bringing reusable packaging reduces the production of single-use plastic packaging and prevents that annoying plastic waste.
