Viva Las Vegan in NRC Rotterdam

Food should bring people together, says Herman Hell of the Nieuw Rotterdams Café. We previously wrote about restaurants that are suitable for visiting with your vegetarian or vegan friends, and NRC can now be added to the list.

It’s a shame when not everyone can eat at the same restaurant. Vegan dishes are still somewhat the neglected child on many menus, and that needs to change, Herman believes. He successfully completed the vegan trial that has just ended and is now building on that success.

What’s new?

The Nieuw Rotterdams Café is located in the former office of the NRC editorial team. The restaurant has been around since 2012, so it isn’t new. What is new, however, is the menu. From now on, it features five vegan main courses. Under the slogan ‘Viva Las Vegan‘, NRC wants to make the menu accessible to both vegans and omnivores.

On the menu?

The lunch menu features avocado on toast with chili flakes, broccoli sprouts and sea salt, as well as a Thai vegetable curry. In the evening, you can choose from a portobello burger with avocado and vegan harissa mayonnaise, a tofu poké bowl or gado gado with marinated and fried tempeh and a spicy peanut sauce. Something for everyone, then, including omnivores who simply fancy a poké bowl.

Worth noting?

NRC has not one, but three bars for drinks. So if you only want something to drink, it’s safe to say that you can do that at the Nieuw Rotterdams Café too.
